More than 100 years ago, Christopher’s grandparents immigrated to America making McGillin’s especially proud to be part of this campaign that helps immigrants get a fighting chance here. McGillin’s served blue beer in honor of Villanova’s National Basketball Championship in 2016 and again in 2018. Le Bec Fin, which kicked off Philadelphia’s restaurant renaissance in 1970, closes and its sign is added to collection at McGillin’s. Besides being one of the oldest bars in Philly, McGillin’s in Midtown Village is also the entire city’s favorite place to day drink and watch sports. If you’re in Philly during football or baseball season and can’t get tickets to the real thing, there’s no better place to be. They also have a fireplace, so it’s especially useful in the winter when all of the outdoor beer gardens are closed and day drinking options have dwindled. McGillin’s has been featured on numerous “Best Of” lists, including being named one of the “14 coolest bars in America” by Gourmet magazine and one of the “50 best Irish pubs in America” by Complex magazine. In addition to these accolades, it boasts a collection of iconic vintage Philadelphia signs from bygone stores and businesses, like Woolworth's and the John Wanamaker Department Store.

Mullins said many Irish tourists visiting Philadelphia stop by the tavern, which can be hard to find, as Drury Street is a small side street. Prior to cell phones, many customers or potential customers could wander for a while before they found it. In 2003, a business older than McGillin’s, J.E. Caldwell, a jeweler who started in 1839, closed, and its sign was added to the collection. This year, the tavern will feature a twist on the traditional Irish Coffee, called a Nutty Irishman Coffee. It is the same as the Irish Coffee but with an added shot of Frangelico (hazelnut liquor).

Initially called The Bell in Hand, the famous pub opened its doors in 1860 in the home of Irish immigrant William "Pa" McGillin, the owner and operator of the establishment. It was nicknamed McGillin's by those who frequented the establishment, and the bar took on the title as its official name. The Sons of Ben, a supporter group of Major League Soccer’s Philadelphia Union, was created at McGillin’s! Bryan James, Andrew Dillon, and David Flagler founded the Sons of Ben supporters club on January 17, 2007, the 301st anniversary of Benjamin Franklin’s birthday. Philadelphia soccer fan Ethan Gomberg suggested the name.

Catherine McGillin locked the front door and served food. (But Mullins said he wouldn’t be surprised if she added a splash of whiskey to the cups of tea she served.) When it ended in 1933, she took the same key from her breast pocket and opened the door. Co-owner and manager Chris Mullins, Jr. said preparing for the holiday is like holding practices for the big game—it’s the biggest event of the year. “It’s more of a Super Bowl than ever,” he said.

As he told the story of how he met his wife, Laura, in the late ‘60s at the Jersey Shore, Doyle looked left, then right, and leaned in. He didn’t see active combat, but the experience — his first outside of Philadelphia — changed his life. He’s still able to easily recite Korean words and phrases, and recalls with fondness the people he met there. His first job was “huckstering,” or selling tomatoes, bananas, and other produce door-to-door as a kid. From there, he worked at a Dairy Queen, a soda shop, and sold newspapers at Municipal Stadium.

Three house specialties — McGillin’s Real Ale; McGillin’s Genuine Lager and McGillin’s 1860 IPA — are brewed by Troegs Independent Brewing. McGillin’s 1860 IPA – Was originally launched on McGillin’s 150th anniversary in 2010. PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania (WPVI) -- McGillin's Olde Ale House, considered the oldest continuously-operating tavern in Philadelphia, has a 164-year-long history. Things were a lot different at McGillin’s back in Doyle’s early days.

As the most discerning, up-to-the-minute voice in all things travel, Condé Nast Traveler is the global citizen’s bible and muse, offering both inspiration and vital intel. We understand that time is the greatest luxury, which is why Condé Nast Traveler mines its network of experts and influencers so that you never waste a meal, a drink, or a hotel stay wherever you are in the world. You can watch the Eagles, Phillies, Sixers Flyers and Union in a historic Philadelphia bar packed full of life-long fans that want a win more than anything. Locals and visitors, business people and hipsters all seem to agree that McGillin’s is a fine place for a pint and some good conversation.

Not only did our city lay the framework for the founding of our country, but we set precedents with our shops, architecture, bars, restaurants, and more. It’s no surprise then that the oldest bar in Philadelphia has a fascinating history, and it remains one of Philly’s go-to spots nearly 160 years after it opened. That was the extent of Doyle’s application and interview process.

The bar only took cash, allowed smoking, and charged 45 cents for a mug of Genny Cream Ale. Doyle, who lives in Andorra, was born in South Philly and raised in the Tasker Homes, where he was the middle child of seven in an Irish-Catholic family. Today, he’s the last remaining of his siblings. Doyle was so stoic and observant that the staff thought he was a cop.

For its annual holiday celebrations, the city’s oldest tavern expects so many customers its restrooms cannot accommodate them. The bar stocks a great selection of local beers like Yuengling, Yards and Victory, while the televisions are always tuned to the most important local sporting event. In 2013, Gourmet magazine called McGillin's one of the three coolest bars in the United States.

Doyle earned a "Best of Philly" award in 2010 when he was named the city's best bartender, and his wife, Laura Doyle, said all these years later she doesn't mind sharing him with the rest of the city. As Doyle gets ready to turn 80, he's scaled back his schedule to one day a week, but he's now worked for three generations of owners, and his tenure has spanned eight Philadelphia mayors. He's also served then Vice President Joe Biden and many other national politicians, athletes and celebrities. Expect Irish pub classics, like the ever-popular Mile High Meatloaf and Shepherd’s Pie, plus Americana bar bites—everything from burgers to pizza and wings (just 35 cents per plate, if you come on a Tuesday night). Ma McGillin finally passed away in 1937 at the ripe old age of 90, passing management of McGillin’s along to her daughter, Mercedes McGillin Hooper, one of 13 children to be raised on the bar’s second floor. Hooper ran the establishment with her nephew Doc for the next 21 years before selling it to brothers Henry Spaniak and Joe Shepaniak (who spelled their names differently) in 1958.

As with most bars and restaurants whose reputations precede them, crowds are commonplace at McGillin’s. Don’t expect lighting-speed service if your visit falls during a weekend or weeknight special (which is basically every day, considering there’s always something on offer). That said, the staff hustle hard to keep service moving. If you can, seek out a barstool in front of barman John Doyle, who’s as much legend as the place itself (he’s been behind the bar at McGillin’s for more than 40 years). In 1910, the bar celebrated its 50th anniversary with a new brick facade and officially changed its name to McGillin’s Olde (the "e" seems to have been dropped in recent years) Ale House.

Festivities begin Saturday, with an open-to-all party featuring surprise guests at the bar from noon to 5 p.m. Celebrations will continue throughout the year, with specials like Doyle dollar dog days, and will culminate on St. Patrick’s Day. But it’s interacting with everyday people that Doyle loves best. On Saturdays and on St. Patrick’s Day and New Year’s Day. On those occasions, the bar is often packed with his regulars who’ve become friends and his friends who’ve become regulars. He’s also met Chase Utley, watched Jason Kelce play cards in McGillin’s, and worked the bar during the Phillies 2008 World Series parade, the busiest day he’s ever seen.

And that’s how Doyle, 79, a married father of two and grandfather of four, came to be the longest-serving bartender at Philly’s oldest-operating bar. This month marks 50 years for Doyle at McGillin’s, which opened on Drury Street near 13th in 1860, and in true Philly fashion, the bar is throwing a yearlong party in his honor. He started going to the storied Center City bar regularly on Friday nights in the early ‘70s, when his wife would go to her mother’s house to do laundry. The signs of defunct businesses, like department stores Lit Brothers and Gimbels, show the tavern’s lasting power. Mullins said that when the Strawbridge & Clothier store at 8th and Market Streets closed in 2006, employees brought one of its exterior, circular stone signs to be hung there.

So one night when the doorman had to use the bathroom, he asked Doyle to watch the door and he did. “I would stand by the door, look around, and just have a couple of drinks,” he said. Mulllins does not have children, but said he has many nieces and nephews who might someday carry on the family tradition of hosting an Irish pub. In 1993, Mullins’ parents, Chris Sr. and Henry’s daughter, Mary Ellen Spaniak Mullins, bought the tavern when the city was again on shaky economic ground. A comeback that begun under Mayor Ed Rendell’s administration benefitted McGillin’s and every other restaurant and bar in the city.

During Prohibition, Ma McGillin hires a chef. Serves food and ice cream and perhaps, a few tea cups were tipped on the second floor. McGillin’s is only closed a few days a year  – and Thanksgiving is one of them.

Get this season’s Eagles Super Mug for & get $2 refills of Bud Light — every Eagles game — all season long! We’ll be serving our famous Iggletini & other Eagles-themed drink specials. Typically includes Pumpkin Martinis, Oktoberfest beers and a rotating list of German  and pumpkin food specials including Pumpkin Mac & Cheese, Pork Pumpkin Apple Cider. Doyle’s service even impresses first-time customers. He once served two men a couple of martinis and some stout beers and was shocked when they left him a $500 tip — his biggest ever — which he split with the other bartender working that day. The storied heritage and classic pub ambience draw all types of bar-goers, from college kids avoiding the library to young professionals grabbing after-work beers, families catching an Eagles game, to retirees.

John Wanamaker, whose flagship department store was nearby, was said to be a frequent customer. “We have heard stories that he did, I assume, in his younger years as he died during prohibition,” said Mullins. And even after the holiday, there’s no rest for the weary. Murph’s is an Irish pub in Fishtown that also happens to make some of our favorite Italian food in the city. The Continental is an upscale diner in Old City where you should go for brunch or for late-night eats until 1am.

humble design

How do you find balance while running Humble? Balance is an elusive mirage on the horizon. We are all chasing it and will never stop if we love our families and our jobs. Chasing it is the important thing though — never give up drawing a line in the sand. I find balance in leaning on my husband Rob for help.

When I started this I knew nothing about the area or nonprofits. Every meeting I took with community leaders or knowledgeable individuals ended with me making one more friend. I love the way the communities take responsibility for the other’s well-being. A variety of companies have teamed up with Humble Design, with CB2 serving as their city sponsor with funds and goods. Aldi also provides goods; Casper donates linens, pillows, and mattresses; Article supplies furniture; and blankets are provided by Betsy’s Blankets, along with sheets and comforters. RIT DYE partners with the nonprofit to transform white Casper duvet covers into something more vibrant and cheerful.

She found a house she could afford, but there was nothing left over in the budget to furnish it. The children were making nests on the floor where they were going to sleep. I cried my eyes out on my way to picking up my children from day care thinking about those kids sleeping on the floor that night while I was tucking my children into their big beautiful beds. While in line at carpool, I started asking people if they had extra items they could donate. I went around with my friend Ana in her pick-up truck and started collecting items to furnish this home. We called our friends, our neighbors, called people we didn’t know — asking for beds, linens, kitchen items.

If you’re particularly keen on keeping plants indoors, this is a great option. A pointy tower, bright orange roof, balconies, red roses… Yes, this is definitely a fantasy house. While it doesn’t take magical powers to build it yourself, note that this Minecraft house uses a great variety of materials, which would require you to visit several biomes in survival mode. Gathering quartz may be especially time-consuming, but you can always swap it to a more standard material like diorite. Ayvocado's treehouse tutorial is one to watch for a quick and easy build.

The Raised Minecraft House, on the other hand, combines the best of both worlds in a single winning recipe for new and expert players alike. The best part is that the house is open to the idea of expansion, should you ever want to take it to the next level. You first have to find a clear area of land to get started with the build. Make sure to cut out the grass before you initiate the building process.

Japanese Minecraft houses

You can make this boathouse as far away from land as you want or as close as you want, it’s completely dependent on what vibe you are going for. Is that vibe complete seclusion, peace, and tranquillity, or do you want the ability to pop to a neighbouring village with ease? If you do build close to land you gain the ability to extend out, constructing gardens and farms to help grow food and other necessities. But the choice is yours to make and you can use this Minecraft house idea however you see fit. With Minecraft not being the most modern looking of places, why not change that up with this awesome Minecraft house idea?

Large modern house with a pool

Thankfully Spudetti has made a very friendly tutorial on how to create this fun little base and it’s perfect for beginners and newcomers to Minecraft who want to stand out from the crowd.. The best way to get started is to place three blocks of Dark Oak Wood to form a single column and repeat the process two more times in a single row with a three-block gap in-between. You can then utilize Oak Wood Planks to form a square of the same height within these walled structures.

3-floor Glass House

As long as you have the materials to hand, you can have a peaceful Japanese house up and running in Minecraft in no time. Plus, a lot of the extra details, not to mention the interior, can be designed to your preference. When you’ve finished constructing the Japanese house, maybe you can create a garden complete with ornate bridges running over a pond filled with fish (brought over with a bucket). If you can build any of these with ease, then you are definitely on the way to becoming a pro builder in Minecraft. Straight from the mind of Gorillo, these three options for your first survival house can get you started off right no matter what style you like. From a little A-frame dugout to an underwater base or a stately treehouse, these builds use easy-to-acquire blocks and are quick to put up and move in, so you can get on to exploring and mining. If you’re looking for simple house builds, I hope these starter houses were able to inspire you. The Incredibly Simple Minecraft House is eponymously one of the easiest house designs that you’ll ever come across. It just takes so little to build it whole and start using it effectively in your Minecraft world.

One of the most easily attainable resources in Minecraft is Wood, so it’s no wonder that this house uses the latter as its primary building material. The Basic Minecraft House is a build that can be manifested directly in Survival Mode with little to no practice. You’ll find that it mostly comprises wood-based blocks in the game. Most of these include Oak Wood and Spruce Wood Planks for constructing the exterior of the house.

It’s simply one of the most impressive Minecraft house ideas to manifest that exudes jungle vibes and everything in between, especially if placed in a fitting biome. They can be exceedingly aesthetic, given that you’re applying the right strategies to them. The house design idea in question is a strong proponent of the thought, donning quite a beautiful yet simple design so new Minecraft players can get started right with their Survival Mode adventures.

Desert Starter House

Another easily buildable house for any survival mode Minecraft player, this is a small but attractive home made out of wood and stone bricks by One Team on YouTube. There's nothing particularly fancy going on here - just a well-designed little house brimming with charm. Particularly when combined with white, glass, and wood in the correct quantities. If you’re looking for a unique and creative Minecraft house build, look no further than this cool beach house design.

These can be particularly fun if you are on a multiplayer server, where you aim to hide from your fellow players. For a game all about digging down, it’s not very often that you think to look up. Throw in the benefit of often having much better and wider views of your surrounding area, and there seem to only be upsides to crafting a home high in the treeline. To get down, you can use vines to be as inconspicuous as possible, or ladders/waterfalls if your build is aiming to be on the larger side.

All that you need to do is block off the entrances and decorate the interior to your liking. Any cave house is possible with the infinitely different worlds of Minecraft. You can also personalize it, such as turning it into a hobbit-style house with cozy and winding wooden interiors and a circular entrance. To enjoy our cooler times is Zaypixel's Autumn cabin, a home complete with a thatched roof, cushy fireplace, and plenty of pumpkins. This cabin is on the snug side and I love the brick accents throughout the exterior of the Minecraft cabin house. Zaypixel's tutorial is super easy to follow and together with its soft piano score makes for a relaxing watch even if you're not planning on building.

It’s easy business from there on out as you decorate the interior and introduce versatility to the build. Do make sure to keep the “starter” spirit going and not delve into too much complexity. This build, designed by SheepGG, is the most stylized build on this list so far.

California Poker Rooms: Where to Play Live Poker in CA

poker house

In California, home poker games are legal under specific conditions. The law allows social gaming as long as the house does not take a rake or charge a fee for participating. This means the game must be a fair contest between players, with no one making a profit from operating the game. Some California live poker rooms also run promotions where you can earn points while playing your favorite daily tournaments. Your points can give you access to entries into larger events, such as the World Poker Tour. Texas Hold’em is the most popular game in California’s cardrooms.

Do I have to pay tax on poker winnings in California?

In May 2023, Gov. Gavin Newsom passed AB 341, which prohibits the expansion of live poker rooms in The Golden State. The law holds for another 20 years, but smaller casinos will be allowed to slowly expand their cardrooms. Rake is the fee charged by the cardroom for every hand or tournament played. You are usually required to pay a rake on every cash pot that qualifies. You must also pay a tournament entry fee when you enter the game. The casino and its attached hotel consistently receive high ratings for its service, comfortable accommodation, and atmosphere. From the opening frame, we see Agnes, strong, confident and caring but also wanting to be more grown-up than her 14 years. She also tries to deal with their mother Sarah who is strung out on drugs and alcohol and worries more about getting Agnes “into the business” than seeing her get a formal education. Bee has an infectious exuberant pragmatacism that seems to shelter her own insecurities about her life. But despite the outward normalcy of the daily routine organized by Agnes and the joy in each of these girls, their lives are anything but normal.

However, she falls when she scores the last goal, limps to the car, and has a meltdown. She then drives off and finds Bee and Cammie at a nearby bridge. The two get in the car, with Agnes not telling her young sisters of events that took place that evening, and instead takes them to get dinner. Cammie then plays "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", and the three girls sing together. Have questions, comments, or opinions on our site or gambling in America?

Overall, the pacing feels languid to the point of meandering, relying too heavily on old soul records (and a final eight-track sing-along) for momentum and energy. As the title suggests, Agnes lives in a highly unsavory environment for children, a run-down house where neighborhood black men come for drinking, gambling and sex. Her own mother, Sarah (played as a makeup-smeared, coke-snorting caricature by Selma Blair), is one of two prostitutes, turning tricks while her daughters plug their ears upstairs. Sarah, a woman addicted to alcohol and drugs, is the mother of three abused and neglected sisters, 14-year-old Agnes, 12-year-old Bee, and 8-year-old Cammie. She has been coerced into prostitution to support her pimp, Duval.

Under the California gambling laws, live poker in California is deemed to be a game of skill. That means it’s entirely legal for licensed cardrooms to offer cash games and tournaments for real money. The casino offers a wide range of stakes to suit all budgets, and the action never stops. For those who thrive on competition, the California Grand regularly hosts big tournaments, bounties, and Sit ‘n Gos.

The Commerce is a glamorous destination for the World Poker Tour — hosting the WPT L.A. Poker Classic and the star-studded WPT Celebrity Invitational every year. High-rolling pros such as Phil Ivey and Phil Hellmuth are on the honor roll of final-tablists at these events. Famous faces are always darting around throughout the Commerce and serve to cement its status as a world-leading venue. The Heartland Poker Tour Gold Rush series also comes to the Commerce. This event gives mid-stakes players access to huge prize pools for small buy-ins.

Cruises to the Caribbean, Bermuda, Alaska Cruises, Hawaii, Europe Norwegian Cruise Line

norwegian cruise ships

Of note, Norwegian Spirit originally was built for Asia-based Star Cruises (where it was called SuperStar Leo). You'll also find multiple pools on each of the ships, whirlpools, basketball courts and golf driving nets. Each of the ships also has a theater, spa, casino, and multiple bars and lounges.

Children's programs

All four of these coming ships, including Norwegian Aqua, will be somewhat bigger than the first two vessels in the series to allow for more cabins and public areas. The last two ships in the series will also be expanded to accommodate new, bigger fuel tanks that can hold methanol — a cleaner-burning type of fuel. Norwegian cruise ships draw a diverse crowd, though the majority of passengers on ships sailing to the Caribbean and in Alaska and Hawaii hail from North America.

What is the newest class of Norwegian Cruise Line ship?

norwegian cruise ships

They have a much more intimate feel, at least in the pantheon of relatively big, mass-market ships, and they hold far fewer people. While Breakaway Plus Class ships can hold around 4,000 passengers, based on double occupancy, the line's oldest vessels are only designed to carry about 2,000 passengers at double occupancy. The newest Norwegian cruise ship is typically also the Norwegian ship with the most modern, up-to-date cabins and the most enticing mix of restaurants, bars and attractions. It's the right choice if you want the creme de la creme of the Norwegian fleet as your floating home away from home.

Cabins and suites

A bigger caveat, perhaps, is that these solo cabins have become so popular they often sell out far in advance and at prices that aren't much better than booking a cabin for two. Unveiled in 2022 and 2023, respectively, the 3,195-passenger vessels are the first entrants in a new class of Norwegian ships that the line has designed to be more upscale than its earlier vessels. Over the years, I've sailed on all but three of Norwegian's 19 vessels, and my personal favorite is Norwegian Prima.

If you can't live without those sorts of features on a cruise ship, then the Dawn class probably isn't for you. The Dawn-class ships are similar to the Jewel-class ships in size and amenities, with a few differences. An iconic presence in Hawaii, Pride of America has been permanently dedicated to the archipelago since its debut in 2005. It offers a repeating seven-night itinerary that begins each Saturday in Honolulu and brings the chance to visit four different Hawaiian islands on a single, seven-night trip.

While the cruise line is not necessarily historically known for its mega-ships, like Royal Caribbean might be these days, several Norwegian cruise ships are still ranked among the 30 largest in the world. Spending on the Norwegian Cruise Line® World Mastercard® won’t earn you Latitude Rewards points (the only way to do that is by sailing with NCL), but it will earn you WorldPoints. This currency can be redeemed for onboard credits on future sailings, Norwegian Cruise Line shore excursions and other travel experiences. The card has no annual fee and no foreign transaction fees, making it ideal for world travelers. Norwegian Cruise Line pioneered many features aboard its ships, some of which other cruise lines have imitated. These are some of the special features you'll find aboard some or all of the ships in NCL’s fleet.

Card Type

Norwegian has a point-based frequent cruiser program, Latitudes Rewards, that has seven tiers, ranging from Bronze (requiring 1 point) to Ambassador (700 points). The line just recommends a step up to "smart casual" outfits in its more formal dining rooms and upscale specialty restaurants. In keeping with Norwegian's laid-backness, this might still mean nothing more than a crisper pair of jeans, or maybe slacks with a collared shirt, for men. Norwegian allows you to bring bottles of your own wine or Champagne on board, but it will charge you a hefty corkage fee of $15 per bottle for the privilege — even if you plan to drink the bottle in your room. Most lines allow passengers to bring at least a bottle or two of their own wine on board at no charge. There are also Howl at the Moon dueling piano bars on some Norwegian ships, and there's the lively Q Texas Smokehouse found on Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Bliss and Norwegian Joy (a music-and-food concept that pairs live music with barbecue).

NCL cruise ship dining packages

Call ports include Kings Wharf (Bermuda), as well as San Juan (Puerto Rico), Philipsburg (St Maarten), Basseterre (St Kitts), St Johns (Antigua), Charlotte Amalie (St Thomas USVI), Road Town (Tortola BVI) and Puerto Plata (Dominicana). Norwegian Sun is for the first time sailing in Asia beginning January 28, 2022, offering a 5-day Japan itinerary from Hong Kong, prior to sailing a series of 11-day voyages from Bangkok (Laem Chabang), Hong Kong, and Singapore. NCL Joy is homeported in Miami (for the first time) for 5- to 7-day Western and Eastern Caribbean cruises. Western Caribbean roundtrips visit Roatan, Harvest Caye, Costa Maya, Cozumel, while the Eastern Caribbean roundtrips are to Puerto Plata, St Thomas, Tortola, Great Stirrup Cay. In April 2017, NCL announced it will employ certified lifeguards on some of its vessels (in summer 2017) and fleetwide (by the year 2018).

Sun class

Norwegian Sun is also one of the smallest and least kid-focused of the five ships the line deploys to Alaska in summer, making it a good choice for retirees wanting to visit that destination. Families with kids naturally gravitate to the two giant, activity-packed vessels Norwegian sends to Alaska each summer — Norwegian Encore and Norwegian Bliss. Norwegian Sun's top deck mostly comprises sunning areas, with a single pool and whirlpools, as is typical for ships built more than two decades ago.

Norwegian Encore, Norwegian Bliss, Norwegian Joy and Norwegian Epic, for instance, have the Cavern Club, a reproduction of the British club that gave rise to the Beatles. It comes complete with a cover band that plays the group's greatest hits. Many of Norwegian's biggest ships have state-of-the-art theaters as big as those you'd find on Broadway, with big-name productions to match. Norwegian Bliss, for instance, has the Tony Award-winning "Jersey Boys."

With nearly 30 different dining and drinking venues aboard the massive ship, as well as tons of family-friendly entertainment, cruisers certainly won’t be wanting for things to do, no matter where they sail. The ship will feature more than 43,000 square feet of outdoor space, more than one infinity pool and a cool dining concept called the Indulge Food Hall, which encompasses nearly a dozen restaurants all in one dining experience. If you’re looking for the biggest ships with the most staterooms, entertainment spaces and dining, then you might not necessarily want to go for one of Norwegian’s brand-new ships. Impact on your credit may vary, as credit scores are independently determined by credit bureaus based on a number of factors including the financial decisions you make with other financial services organizations. Instead, you would earn benefits on future cruises related to your particular elite tier. NCL spans the globe with sailings to every continent (even Antarctica) on a wide range of ships.

Luxury Cruise Deals, Special Offers and Amenities

Vista's culinary center is three times larger than the versions found on sister ships Marina and Riviera. In addition to the test kitchen with 24 individual cooking stations, a second room can be arranged for lectures or even dinners. Classes are themed, often related to the ship's destination, and yes, you can eat what you cook. The pool bar serves all the daiquiris and coladas you can drink while lounging on Vista's gorgeous, resort-style pool deck. Aquamar has a lovely menu of nonalcoholic cocktails, fresh juices, lattes and smoothies.

You can walk away while your load runs, but set a timer because folks will remove your clothes if you don't pick them up in a timely fashion. Passengers can bring up to six bottles of wine per cabin for consumption in their room. If you wish to drink your own wine in a restaurant or public area of the ship, you will need to pay a $25 per bottle corkage fee.

The noteworthy Grand Lounge sports geometric chandeliers and glass shelves of vases and glass sculptures, while the faux wood paneling on the pool deck sets it apart from any cruise ship Lido you've ever seen. The glam settings make you feel like you're a movie star and add to the decadent feeling of being on vacation. Last week, I was one of 1,200 passengers on Oceania Cruises’ first new ship in 11 years. With the debut of Vista, the brand, owned by Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings, rolled out its new Allura class of ship.

Vista Has 12 Different Dining Options Onboard -- Three of Which Are New

However, in the cruise space, this ship is clearly in the upscale category and not true luxury. The cruise line has announced a new base fare package called “simply MORE,” which comes with a host of inclusions. These include round-trip flights, airport transfers, shore excursions and a beverage package for all guests in the cabin. In 2025, the Riviera ship makes a debut in Alaska, offering 7 to 12 days itineraries.

All cabin bathrooms were overhauled and received new tiling, surfaces, fixtures, designer accessories, vanities, glass shower enclosures. Penthouse-Vista-Owner suite bathrooms were enlarged and upgraded with Carrara marble tops, onyx, polished granite. At lunch are offered Italian salad (assorted greens), Tuscan-style bean soup, toasted garlic bread, spinach-stuffed involtini (with pasta and tapenade sauce), tofu, chocolate ricotta pie. The dinner menu is 5-course and include truffle-flavored parsnip soup, quinoa salad, vegetable tartare, Thai red curry with rice, shortbread dessert (strawberries, passion fruit cream).

Both of these are on the larger end of its fleet, with a capacity for 1,210 passengers. Oceania has eight ships in a range of sizes; the smallest accommodates just under 700 passengers, while the largest can hold up to 1,250. The cruise line has a low staff-to-passenger ratio, between 1.5 and 1.7 staff per passenger, which allows for more personalized service. Many of its ships have capacity for 684 passengers, which means they can feel less crowded than larger ships. Oceania Cruises sails to all seven continents and visits more than 600 ports in more than 100 countries. The line recently introduced a new base fare, which includes round-trip airfare and Wi-Fi.

Departing from either Papeete or Honolulu, the 7 new voyages range 10 to 18 days, with the accessibility facilitated by direct flights to Papeete and Honolulu from major cities like NYC, Los Angeles, Paris, London, Sydney NSW. For instance, direct flights from LA to Papeete take ~8 hours, flights from Auckland NZ to Papeete are ~5 hours. Honolulu is reachable via a direct 6-hour flight from LA and an 8,5-hour direct flight from Auckland. Nautica ship has scheduled 10-day itineraries in French Polynesia, and a 31-day journey to Sydney NSW Australia via New Zealand, departing on February 19th, 2024. The featured destinations include the Caribbean's Barbuda, Dominica, and BVI/British Virgin Islands as well as French Polynesia's Moorea, Raiatea, and Rangiroa. Due to the COVID pandemic, NCLH's entire fleet (all vessels of the brands NCL-Norwegian, RSSC-Regent and Oceania) is with an expanded cancellation policy.

Passengers are affable and well-travelled, and are generally drawn to the line for its semi-inclusiveness and focus on destination-driven cruise itineraries. To that end, Vista sports a magnificent Library on Deck 14 that is divided into three sections -- all of which are just steps away from the nearby Baristas coffee bar and the brand-new onboard Bakery. Hundreds of titles are present, from modern fiction to classics, and with a generous selection of nonfiction books covering a plethora of topics -- including maritime history, for those interested. Were Vista to debut for a luxury cruise line, it would fit right in, both in terms of style, design and comfort.

However, it also often has a second ship visiting the region briefly as part of an around-the-world cruise. Many of Oceania's most popular itineraries are in the Mediterranean, where it sometimes deploys as many as five ships during parts of the summer. Generally, Oceania doesn't have a formal children's program or onboard facilities, but in Alaska the line offers the Alaska Explorer Youth Program for kids between the ages of 5 and 12, with activities that reflect the region. You can sail to the far corners of the globe on our small, luxurious ships, but you’ll always feel like you’re coming home to family. Our personalized service means our staff and crew attend to your every request with a smile.

After my soak, I watched the sunset from Polo Grill, over martinis and filet mignon, and then went back to Founders Bar, to continue my absolutely crucial cocktail-sampling mission. New to Oceania, its most ambitious bar aboard has a menu of 26 intricate cocktails that use house-made syrups and top-shelf booze like Whistle Pig and parsley-infused Grey Goose. Of those cocktails, we tried nine (a decent showing, but not our best), and kept coming back to the Not So Sure, a potent take on an old fashioned made with Earl Grey tea–infused Woodford Reserve bourbon. I woke up to gray skies as Oceania Vista pulled into the port of Naples, Italy. Determined to reverse my weather luck, I went to deck 12 for a Morning Sunrise smoothie at Aquamar Kitchen. Some combination of the restaurant’s white-tile backsplash and baby-blue accents and the tropical smoothie brightened my mood.

Its booking promotions may offer additional inclusions, like free Wi-Fi, airfare, excursions, beverage package or shipboard credit. For a ship of its size, Oceania's Vista offers an astonishing 12 different dining options onboard, including three all-new venues for the line. And with the consistently high level of quality present in the cuisine onboard, passengers are unlikely to find themselves wanting for culinary delights -- whether it's simpler fare like pizza, or full-blown, multi-course dining extravaganzas. Bottled water, soda and coffee drinks are free of charge, whether ordered at a bar or stocked in your cabin's mini-fridge.

Oceania's new vegan menu has over 250 dishes and is featured in Main Dining Rooms of all ships. On June 6, 2022, NCLH announced an expansion of its fleetwide sustainability program "Sail & Sustain". Extending its animal welfare policy, the shipowner is now fully committed to responsible animal food sourcing practices (regarding pork, chicken, eggs, and seafood) within the global fleet's supply chain.

It includes drydock refurbishments of all four R-Class liners - Regatta (September 2019), Insignia (December 2018), Sirena (May 2019) and Nautica (June 2020). Among the line's most far-flung Caribbean itineraries for the coming year is a 12-night voyage out of Miami that brings visits to the Bahamas, Puerto Rico, St. Barts, Dominica, Barbados, Grenada, St. Lucia and Antigua. In Northern Europe, Oceania ships mostly sail out of Southampton, England; Amsterdam; Hamburg, Germany; Belfast, Northern Ireland; Copenhagen; and Oslo.

It's a good thing most of Vista's sailings are 10 days or longer, so you have ample time to sample all the dining venues and even make repeat visits to your favorites. The ship's target demographic is well-off, mature couples who are looking for destination-focused itineraries on a ship with elevated dining. For a small, 67,000-ton ship, Vista wows with eight restaurants, plus a bakery and private dining rooms for wine-paired meals. It also stands out for its expanded Culinary Center, for cooking classes and demos, and Artist Loft, where passengers can get crafty under the tutelage of resident artists.

New public spaces on these ships include open-floor designed Lobby with Reception Hall (lower level) with Upper Hall (2nd level). They are connected with Grand Staircase (decorated with railings and balustrades) and featuring a large crystal chandelier (with hanging pieces of hand-painted glass). Oceania isn't a huge player in Caribbean cruises, unlike its sister company Norwegian Cruise Line. But it typically sends two vessels to Miami every winter to operate warm weather-focused getaways to well-known Caribbean ports. It also offers some Caribbean sailings from other regional ports, including Panama City, Panama. For the first time in Oceania Cruises' history, 1,250-guest Riviera will be exploring the best of Alaska.
